A lot of our rubbish jobs are in the units and townhouses along Beach Road and around the Promenade, the same addresses we clean week in and week out. These places are tight on storage. There's no big back yard to stack an old lounge or a dead fridge while you sort out a tip run, so the rubbish ends up in the carport, on the balcony or jamming the single garage.
We work around that. We carry the heavy stuff down stairwells and through shared driveways without scratching walls or holding up the neighbours, and we sweep up after ourselves so the common areas are left clean. When you've a check-out at ten and a check-in at two, that pile can't sit there.

Sitting right on the Clyde River and the bay means homes here cop salt spray on glass and aluminium, and that salt doesn't stop at the shower screen. It eats outdoor furniture, rusts the legs off the old barbecue and seizes the wheels on the trailer that has sat beside the house for a decade. Add the constant sandy feet through beachside places and carpet, mats and underlay wear out faster than they would inland.
So a fair bit of the rubbish we cart out of Bay homes is exactly this coastal wear and tear, the rusted-out patio setting, the perished outdoor blinds, the sun-shot trampoline, the carpet that has had its last summer of sand ground into it. We take it all and sort it properly. Metal goes for recycling rather than straight to landfill, and green waste from the garden gets kept separate. No hazardous waste though, so no paint, gas bottles, asbestos or chemicals.

The streets up behind the CBD toward Hanging Rock are family homes, and that's where the big garage and shed clear-outs come from. These blocks have room to accumulate, so over the years the shed fills with broken whitegoods, leftover building offcuts, kids bikes nobody fits anymore and a back fence-line of green waste from keeping the yard in check.
