Glass at the edge of Murramarang

North Durras sits right up against Murramarang National Park, and that setting shows up on the windows more than almost anywhere else we clean. The glass here doesn't just cop salt mist off the beach, it also picks up a fine bush dust that drifts in off the bush and the unsealed tracks. You end up with a gritty film that catches the afternoon light and makes a whole room look tired, even when the floors are spotless.

When we clean windows in North Durras we treat it as two jobs in one. We cut the salt and sea mist that bakes onto the outside of the glass, and we deal with the bushland grime that settles on sills, tracks and frames. A quick wipe never touches the second problem, which is why a lot of the shacks up here look hazy again within a fortnight if the glass was only given a once-over.

The kangaroos that come down onto the beach and through the yards leave their mark too. We see plenty of nose smudges and sandy paw prints low down on the sliding doors where the roos and the dogs have been right up against the glass. It's part of the charm of staying up here, but it's also the sort of thing we make a point of clearing on the lower panes so the doors look properly clean, not just wiped at eye level.

Built for the shacks and beach houses

The housing up here's mostly holiday shacks and beach houses, not the big double-glazed builds you see closer to the Bay. That means a lot of older timber and aluminium frames, sliding doors that face straight into the weather, and flyscreens that have been out in the salt for years. We clean the internal and external glass, then go through the tracks, the frames and the flyscreens, because on these places the screens are usually where the worst of the bush dust and cobwebs are hiding.

Plenty of these homes have a sleepout or a second storey to make the most of the tree line or a glimpse of the water. We assess any two-storey glass on site before we start, work out safe access around the deck and the bush, and only quote it once we've actually looked at it. No guessing over the phone.

Changeovers between guests

Guest changeovers are the most common job we do in North Durras, and windows are a big part of what makes a place feel fresh when the next family walks in. Holidaymakers come up here for the view, the beach and the kangaroos out the front, so the first thing they do is open the curtains and look out. Smeary, salt-streaked glass undoes all the work you put into the rest of the house.

We slot the window clean into the same visit as the changeover so owners aren't paying for two trips up here. While the place is being turned around between check-out and check-in, we get the sliding doors and the big living-room glass clear so the outlook toward the bush and the beach is the first thing guests notice, not a hazy window.

Deep clean before peak season

A lot of North Durras owners only get up here a few times a year, so the windows can go a long while between proper cleans. The smart move is to book a deep clean before peak season that includes the glass, so the place is reset for the run of summer guests. We strip back the salt film and the bush dust that has built up over the quiet months, clear the tracks of leaf litter and grit, and get the flyscreens back to actually doing their job.

Doing it once, properly, before the season means the glass holds up far better through the busy stretch. From there a lighter touch at each changeover keeps it clear, rather than letting months of salt and dust set hard on the outside of the windows again.

End of lease, glass included

There's rental stock among the shacks here as well as the holiday lets, and when a tenancy ends the windows are one of the things an agent will mark you down on. Our end of lease cleans cover the glass inside and out, the tracks and the frames and the flyscreens, all done to the REINSW exit standard so the place presents the way the agent expects.

Our bond-back guarantee covers it too. If the agent flags the cleaning, including the windows, we come back and re-clean within 72 hours at no cost. Given how quickly salt and bush dust can settle back onto the glass up here, that 72-hour window matters, and we'd rather sort it than have it sit on your bond.

The northern edge of our run, no surcharge

North Durras is the furthest point on our run, tucked off the beaten track beyond the southern end of the park. Some cleaners either won't come this far or load a travel fee on top. We cover North Durras the same as everywhere else, with no travel surcharge, because we already loop through here for changeovers and exit cleans.

We're a small local team, Tyson, Shanice and Lisa, all police-checked and fully insured, and we use low-tox products that are kinder around the bush setting and safe for the families staying in these holiday homes. Five out of five from 110 Google reviews and open seven days, so if you need the glass sorted before a weekend handover up at Durras, give us a call on 0479 184 498.

Good to know

Window Cleaning questions, North Durras

Why do the windows on my North Durras place get hazy so fast? +
It's the double hit of salt mist off the beach and fine dust drifting in from Murramarang National Park. The salt bakes onto the outside of the glass and the bush dust settles into the tracks and frames, so a place that sits empty between guests can look hazy within a couple of weeks. We clean the glass, tracks, frames and flyscreens together so it stays clear longer, and we can fold it into your changeover visits to keep on top of it.
Can you do the windows as part of a holiday-let changeover here? +
Yes, that's how we most often do it in North Durras. Rather than a separate trip all the way up to Durras, we clean the internal and external glass while we turn the place around between check-out and check-in. We focus on the big living-room glass and the sliding doors so the outlook toward the bush and the beach is the first thing your guests see when they open the curtains.
My beach house has a second storey, can you reach that glass? +
Most likely, but we assess any two-storey glass on site first. The shacks and beach houses up here have all sorts of access around decks and the surrounding bush, so we look at it in person, work out the safe way to reach it, and quote it properly before we start. We don't guess at second-storey work over the phone.
