What is NDIS cleaning and am I eligible?
A straight answer from a local Eurobodalla cleaner.
The short answer first
NDIS cleaning is regular household cleaning that's paid for through your NDIS plan instead of out of your own pocket. On the plan it's usually written up as domestic assistance, which is the everyday work of keeping a home clean, safe and liveable when a disability or health condition makes doing it yourself too hard or unsafe. So the cleaning itself is ordinary cleaning, the kind we do for any home around Batemans Bay. What makes it NDIS cleaning is who funds it and how the visit is set up around your plan.
Whether you're eligible comes down to two things. First, does your plan actually include funding for this kind of support. Second, how is your plan managed, because that decides which cleaners you're allowed to choose. We'll walk through both plainly below. The honest answer is that NDIS cleaning suits a lot of people but not everyone, and we'd rather you knew where you stand before you book.
We're Capital Coastal Cleaning, a small Indigenous-owned team based in the Bay, and we do NDIS domestic assistance as part of our regular work across the Eurobodalla. If you just want a quick yes or no on whether we're a fit, ring Tyson on 0479 184 498.
What the cleaning itself actually covers
Domestic assistance is the weekly upkeep that stops a home sliding. For us that means the kitchen wiped down and the floor mopped, the bathroom and toilet scrubbed and disinfected, surfaces dusted, floors vacuumed and mopped through the living areas and bedrooms, bins emptied, and the general tidy that keeps the place clean and safe to move around in. We can also fold in the small jobs that make a real difference, like a change of bed linen or a load of washing hung out, if that's on your agreed list.
What it doesn't cover is just as important, and we want to be straight about it. Domestic assistance is house cleaning. It isn't personal care, nursing, medication support or anything hands-on with your body. Those are separate supports done by separate workers, and your support coordinator or plan manager is the right person to arrange them. We're happy to clean alongside whoever else is coming into your home, but we stay in our lane.
A one-off deep clean to get on top of a place that has built up, say after a stretch in hospital, sits a bit differently to the regular weekly clean and is often funded separately. We'll tell you honestly if your home needs that first, and we quote it on its own so you and your plan manager can decide how to handle it.
Are you eligible, in plain terms
The first part of eligibility is your plan. If you've NDIS funding and your plan includes a line for cleaning or domestic assistance, then in principle you can use that funding to pay a cleaner like us. If you aren't sure, your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm in a minute, and so can a look at your plan under the core supports or daily living section. We don't have access to your plan, so we can't see your funding for you, but we can tell you what to look for.
The second part is how your plan is managed, and this is the bit that catches people out. If you're self-managed, you control your own funding and can choose any cleaner you like, including a small local business not registered with the agency. If you're plan-managed, a plan manager pays your invoices and you also have the freedom to use unregistered providers, so we can work with you. Both of those are a yes from our side.
If your plan is agency-managed, meaning the NDIA pays your providers directly, you generally have to use providers registered with the agency. We aren't a registered NDIS provider through the agency, so in that case we usually aren't a fit, and we aren't going to pretend otherwise to win the work. Plenty of cleaners are vague about this and it ends in a knocked-back invoice. We would rather lose the job by being upfront, and where we can we'll point you toward someone who suits your setup.
How we're set up, and why we tell you straight
You deserve to know exactly who you're dealing with before you let anyone into your home week after week. We're a small team, so the person at your door is usually Tyson, Shanice or Lisa, the same names you'll see through our Google reviews, where we hold a 5.0 from 110 reviews. We aren't a franchise sending a different stranger each week, and for support work that consistency is close to the whole point.
Every one of us is police-checked and we carry full public liability insurance, and we're happy to show you the paperwork when you book. We started in 2023 and we're open seven days, so we can usually hold a steady weekly or fortnightly slot rather than squeezing you in. If your regular cleaner is ever sick or away we'll let you know before the visit and brief whoever fills in, so the standard doesn't drop. That same honesty is why our plan-managed clients stay with us. Nothing surprises them or their plan manager, and if you're ever not happy with something we fix it, no defensiveness.
The Eurobodalla angle, and how the money side works
Cleaning a coastal home is genuinely different work, and it matters for an NDIS clean because the conditions down here lean on the everyday jobs. Salt air off the bay films up glass, mirrors and shower screens faster than it would inland, so those need proper attention each visit or they go cloudy, and sandy feet grind grit into floors and carpet the moment the warm weather hits. We clean for that because we live here too, and we cover the whole coast from Durras down to Moruya, so we're usually minutes from your door if something comes up.
On the money, NDIS domestic assistance is billed against the cleaning support line in your plan, the same line your plan manager already knows how to process. We give you a clear quote before we start so you know what each visit costs and how it maps to your funding, with nothing tacked on afterwards. After each clean we send a tidy itemised invoice set out the way a plan manager expects, so it goes through without a string of questions. If you're self-managed, that same clear invoice is what you need to claim.
We don't put a public price on NDIS work, because the right number depends on the size of your home, the agreed checklist and how often we come, and we'd rather give you a real figure than a made-up one. That's how we quote everything, fixed up front and never by a vague hourly guess. Ask for a quote and we'll walk you through it plainly, including roughly how long a visit takes, so you can see how it sits against your plan.
How to get started, and what we need from you
Getting going is simple. Ring Tyson on 0479 184 498 and tell us how your plan is managed and what you want done. From there we'll confirm whether we're a fit, agree a checklist that puts the things that matter most to you at the top, and lock in a regular slot. The first visit runs a little longer because we're learning your home, not just cleaning it, and a family member, carer or support coordinator is welcome to sit in, though it isn't required.
You don't need to clean before we arrive, that's rather the point, but a few small things stretch your funded hours further. If you can point us to where the bin liners, fresh linen and any products you prefer are kept, keep floors clear where you safely can, and flag anything fragile so we work around it, we spend the time cleaning rather than hunting for things. A quick heads-up about your other supports also helps us pick a slot that doesn't clash.
Most of all, tell us what matters to you, because it's your home and your plan. Some care most about a spotless bathroom, some about clear, safe floors, some about the kitchen. The more you tell us, the more the clean becomes genuinely yours rather than a generic once-over. We bring all our own gear and our standard range is low-tox and family and pet-safe, gentler in a home where someone may be sensitive to harsh chemicals. Give us a call seven days a week and we'll set it up around you.
